What
We Believe
-
God
God is creator and ruler of the universe. In this fast-changing
world, an unchanging God wants us to know the eternal bliss of a relationship
with Him.
-
Jesus Christ
Jesus is the Son of God. He is co-equal with God the Father and
the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself
as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the
cross. He arose from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and
death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to
bring salvation to the righteous and condemnation to those who do
not obey the Gospel. Jesus is the bedrock foundation of the Worthington
Church.
-
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Jesus Christ. He,
through the written Word of God, makes people aware of their need
for salvation in Jesus Christ. He also lives in the hearts of every
Christian from the moment of baptism (Acts 2:38).
-
The Bible
The Bible is God’s Word. It was written by human authors, under
the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the only source of truth for
our beliefs and behavior, for our character and conduct. Because it
is inspired by God, the Bible is God’s truth without error.
Our faith in God’s Word and the direction it offers us is central
to a meaningful life.
-
Human Beings
People are the ultimate of God’s creation. We were made to experience
God’s love and goodness. Although every person has tremendous
power for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience
to God called sin. This attitude separates people from God and causes
many problems in life.
-
Salvation
Salvation is God’s free gift, but we must accept it by faith.
We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works.
Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as our sacrifice can we be saved
from sin’s penalty. When we turn to Jesus in faith, repentance,
confession, and baptism we are saved. Baptism is the point at which
we are saved and the point at which we begin the process of Spiritual
growth.
-
The Church
The Church is God’s family of saved people, the distinctive
body of Christ (Ephesians 4:4). Because of this, we seek to restore
all the aspects of Christ’s church, including the essential
nature of baptism, a cappella music in worship, the autonomy of the
local congregation, the weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper,
and the role of men and women in and out of the worship assembly.
-
Eternity
Our souls are created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally
separated from God by sin, or we will live eternally with God through
His grace and mercy. To be eternally separated from God is to experience
Hell. To be in eternal union with God is Heaven. Heaven and Hell are
real places of eternal existence.
