How To Build A Better Parent
Healthy well-balanced families do not happen by chance. They are the
results of wise actions and wise decisions by wise parents. “Through
wisdom is an house built; and by understanding it is established”
(Proverbs 24:3). Nothing compares to the awesome responsibility of raising
children. There are four basic responsibilities of parents: preparing
your kids for life, protecting your kids in the storms of life, playing
with your kids for fun, and pointing your kids to God.
One of the goals of better parenting is preparing your children for
life. The family is a learning center. It is where we learn the skills
of life. Parents must diligently teach their children how to live. The
second goal in being a better parent is protecting your children in
the storms of life. Life is full of storms, and the home is to be a
place of safety and security. The third goal in being a better parent
is playing with your children for fun. The family is to be the place
where life is fun. Children are to be enjoyed, not just endured.
The bottom line to better parenting is pointing your children to God.
The most important lesson we teach our children is about knowing and
loving God. Parents play a very important part in helping their children
choose to serve God. “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children
to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord”
(Ephesians 6:4).
We all want happy, well-adjusted, responsible children. We all want
to be better parents, but so many pressures and demands compete for
our attention. Some parents may do these things instinctively, but most
of us have to learn to be better parents. To help you become a better
parent, join us for “Raising Faithful Kids in A Fast-Paced World,”
a video seminar taught by Dr. Paul Faulkner. This series will last seven
Sundays. Be there Sunday Morning, September 1 at 10:00 a.m., for the
first lesson.
